I'm in a rock band and I've been listening to Queen all my life. My electric guitar playing is undoubtedly influenced by Brian May and my vocals give a nod to Freddie ;) I've begun an Accoustic project however and I'm trying to get the sound that Brian's guitar has at the beginning of Jealousy. Any thoughts or info about the recording of that song? It'd be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

The acoustic guitar in Jealously is far too 'twangy'

Main article: Jealousy (Queen song)
"Jealousy" was penned by Mercury and features May playing his Hairfred acoustic guitar placing small pieces of piano wire under the frets to produce the "buzzing" effect of a sitar. This effect had already been used on "White Queen (As It Began)", from Queen II. All vocals were recorded by Mercury.
Or.....find a sitar.

By the way, both cited sources misspell the guitar make. It's actually 'Hallfred.'

I agree. Never liked it.

Could be the production rather than the actual instrument. Or a bit of both.

I'd have to agree. I'm sure the guitar did some of the work but there must have been some alteration in the booth. Possibly a tape effect?

You gotta love Queen! The guys were so creative. Great stuff!

I think maybe its the studio effects I'm after as opposed to the guitar sound, assuming there is one of course.

Didn't he used a guitar that was lying around and had a nice sound for White Queen? That's the story I knew since day 1.
