I was listening to The Game the other day and I noticed a similarity in both Roger's songs on the album : they both have a fair amount of space between the vocal lines. In fact, apparently, the synthesizer on "Rock It" was added because the band felt that there was too much empty space between the lines! I don't know if that was a coincidence or a conscious decision from Roger to write sparse lyrics for these songs but I thought it was kind of interesting!

Quite. I agree.

Somehow i have a memory of listening to this album when i was a kid, and the intro, sung by Freddie was sung by Roger.
They both sang some lines from the intro.
I do not know why i have that memory, back then i had the Elektra edition of the Game on vinyl.
Like an alternate take or something, i know it sounds stupid but could it be real ? :-)

Well, that's quite often the case in songs by singing drummers - so the drumming doesn't interfere with their singing. There's a lot of Roger songs with that feature, including I'm In Love With My Car.

Yes, but the drums and the vocals are usually recorded seperately in the studio, even more so if the drummer is also the singer. But maybe Roger was hoping to sing one of these songs live?

But could it be, that somehow i got a different version of that song, were that Roger and Freddie alternately sang their lines, Freddie the first part of the intro, Roger the 2nd part of the intro.
And after the intro, Roger sang the whole song.
I am not getting it out of my system :-(

Rock It and Coming Soon are my 'getting ready to go out on a Friday night' songs.

Maybe you heard 'Fun In Space' at the same time, and are thinking of the first 30 seconds of 'No Violins'. Or someone made a mix, and inserted that part into 'Rock It'. That is quite possible (and could have actually 'worked').

but it was the album, i believed i heard it on, well i was somewhere between 12-14 in 86-88 when i bought it, so it could be that i imagined it.
But it stayed in my head after all these years.

The second repeat of "to my soul" in the intro is double tracked Freddie and Roger, no? Maybe that's what you remember?

There is a version where RT sings the intro as well as the main song but never heard of it being issued on an album.

Memory is a curious beast.

And there is a version where Freddie sings the whole song. According to "The Complete Works" by Georg Purvis : "Two versions of the song were recorded : one with Freddie on lead vocals throughout, and the other with Roger on vocals. Freddie and Brian agreed that the former was superior, but John, Roger and Mack fought for the latter, since it added to the diversity of the album. A compromise was struck, and Mack joined together the introduction from Freddie's version with the main vocals from Roger's".
Man I'd love to hear these versions!

Missed a treat for us on the 2011 deluxe set. Equally insulting to the fans if Brian thought it superior.

I had the original The Game on vinyl from Elektra, i believe it was a US import.
Anyone has this one, we could check...hehehe, just to put my mind on ease.
