He was also a good friend of Roger Taylor. I read a post on Twitter from someone who met him after his quadruple bypass in 1997 and he was still smoking like a train and he was amazed he lasted this long!

yes. i recall rick telling, that he sat in jail in menorca with roger for one night :-) must have been a hell of a party !
