I was listening to the 1981 Japan shows, and i noticed something that I haven't spotted before. Everytime, before Freddie started the song, Brian gave him a helping note, to help him sing it in the right chord.

It was actually John - he'd do a 12th fret harmonic on the G string and swirl the volume up and down.

Ahh, ok. Thanks for clarifying.

It was actually roger. He snorted coke with a perfect nasal G whistle.
Of course over time, that lowered considerably due to smoking.

Yeah, pretty standard live practice when the singer has to come in without instrumental backing. Even if one has a very good memory for pitch, it's easy to forget/to still be 'in' the key of the previous song, in the chaotic midst of live performance.

Rog didn't get to the stage in time on this night. He returned just in time for the next song, sniffling for some reason.

I didn't even know John wore a g-string. Couldn't spot it on that Magic tour photo of his nads.
