Huge loss for music. Not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a kind and gentle soul.

It just came out that he hung himself. So absolutely tragic.
The last song of last night's gig included a snippet of Zeppelin's In My Time Of Dying.
People in the limelight suffer more than we'll ever realize. So many of them don't have a world independent of their craft, leaving them with depression in their off time.
RIP Chris. Thank you for dedicating your life to making the rest of us happier through music.

A really nice down to earth guy.
Met him when he performed at our place during his Songbook Tour.
Loaded in all the gear from 9 in the morning. Gig was at 8 that night.
He walks in at 10 mins to 8, comes up to me and we have a brief chat about the local area and tell him I went to Vegas to watch him.
Walks startight on stage and plays and blistering set.

This is very true indeed.
Found an old fanclub interview with Brian in wich he more or less says the same about the void that he gets into when he has just performed and is offstage.

Found an old fanclub interview with Brian in wich he more or less says the same about the void that he gets into when he has just performed and is offstage.
He keeps touring at age 70, so the high of the gig must still be worth the exchange.
And in Brian's case, he does have a ton of offstage activity - and he still goes through a hard time.
One can only imagine.

My wife has been a fan for decades of JC Superstar's movie soundtrack. For the past five years, I've converted her to listen to the studio version. We have met Ted Nealy a couple of times.
When I watched 'Jesus Christ Pose', listened to Cornell's various vocals from 'Smokestack Lightning' to his sad finale in Detroit.....
Freddie was my favorite rock vocalist. Steve Perry my second.
I think they would have done OK, but no one else could have sung 'Gethsemane' with the same range and angst as Chris Cornell.
