I'm impressed Panchgani! Were you there when Freddie mentioned "the real girls"?

Hey Katydyd, The only time Freddie mentioned us was in a concert (I forget which city) where he said "this is for all the real girls" which he admitted later was for us.

Freddie said this during August 13th 1982 concert ... In Hoffman Estates (near Chicago) at the end of "Play the Game"

Welcome.
Our thoughts will especially be with you and the man with the hammer nest Friday. I'll be passing by the Lodge for a quick toast.

Sadly, I was 20 miles away and unaware that Queen were in town.

Queen's popularity was waning in the States back then with little publicity, and I was busy working at a summer research internship at Argonne National Laboratory and in my own little bubble.

August 13, 1980 is the only bootleg recording I have of the 1982 North American tour, and I listened to the concert a month ago driving on a business trip, which helped me remembered the "Real Girls" line from after Play the Game and before Calling All Girls.

Thor, we're between Toronto and Niagara Falls, actually, same distance to both cities :)
Now every time I pass Queen Street (there is a King and Queen street in all Canadian cities) I always start singing something from my favorite band )

Hi Everyone,

This was sent to me today. (Thanks Mom!). I lot of the info you've most likely heard, but I quite enjoyed the way in which it was presented. Pertains to Freddie's voice.

Catus,

I had no idea Canadian cities had a King and Queen Street. I have been to Montreal dozens of times. I always drive the same familiar route as I am usually heading to Old Montreal, and every time I pass King, Queen, and Prince streets!

For those of us who live near the border, Canada is more like a friendly neighbor than another country. Welcome to this thread or bienvenue as our "neighbors" would say!

Hi Rainbow! This is such a nice video, thanks a lot! I was actually thinking about Freddie's voice today when listening to both studio and live versions of The Prophet's Song. I cannot comprehend how it was even possible to sing this song live. And how it felt to be in the audience at this moment.

Thanks Thor! ) you are so kind. I am just a music fan )

Rainbow,
Yes, I think even small towns would have at least one of these streets (King or Queen) :)

Catus,

I have only been to Ontario once and that was when I was in college. I went with a group of people to Ottawa...we were protesting the US testing of the cruise missile in Canada. (I did that kind of stuff a lot back then). There are only two things that stand out about that trip. 1) It was painfully cold out and I wasn't dressed properly. 2) It was the very first time I had ever seen a gay couple. (In Rochester before we headed into Canada). There were two young women who walked by holding hands. I was quite surprised at how open they were. This would have been in the early 80's.

So Thor...that leads me to my question for you. Outside of Freddie's apartment or bars, when Freddie was with Bill Reid, would the average person who passed them have known they were a couple? Not that he would have been holding hands, but did they interact in such a way you could tell they were together? In general, for those in your group who had partners, would they have been open about that outside of a setting with other gay friends?
