Mr Michael hello,
Why would Freddie answer a question that we never sunk low enough to ask?
Mr.Michael · Member since
After Live Aid some alarm bells should have rang. Freddie's armpit was like a god damn rainforest. Freestone said in some of his Ask Phoebe-sections that someone used to shave Freddie's back, and it wouldn't have hurt to trim those pits.
Like I said in the 80's it wasn't done. Nowadays it's considered hygienic.
But on a more serious note. How did your group cope with the dangerous new disease when it was first mentioned? You hang out in NYC from when to where? About '80-'83? Or when did Freddie stop visiting New York? Obviously that was the time when Aids started to claim victims. Was this ever discussed (surely it was a topic) and how where the reaction? Like already mentioned in another topic Freddie reacted with a "fuck it"-attitude. But was it really like this?
You yourself said you are lucky to be alive. Do you now feel it's actually a miracle because it must have been a very scary time for you all? I don't know the actual odds, but surely the risk was huge.
When was the last time you saw Freddie and did you speak to him after that?

Besides the bars, what other places did you guys go to in nyc? What were his favorite restaurants/ food?

Hi Thor !
me again..I was wondering if you saw my ( silly ) questions on page 9 ?
( am reposting here the last part)
-did you get to meet photographer Mick Rock who apparently also hung out with Freddie in NY in the early eighties ?
- Peter Freestone mentioned in his book (or somewhere else?) that Freddie showed different facettes of himself to different people. Would you have an opinion on that ?--Thanks so much !

I don't shave my armpits, does that make me unhygienic?

Hi Thor,
Thanks for all the answers, it's very interesting to read. If it's convenient, I have one question (or more accurately: a few questions on one theme) to ask:
What sort of subjects did Freddie like to talk about with you guys, niceties and personal matters aside? What was a conversation with Freddie in a social context like, as in: did he talk more, or listen more? Would he talk with interest about a subject, or jump from topic to topic? And, did he ever (spontaneously) sing and/or ask your opinion on anything musical, like a snippet of lyrics or a melodic phrase?
I hope I'm not taxing your recollection too much!

Lets just say that hopefully you use a good deodorant. At least during the summer.

Mr. Michael hello again,
I guess you have not read this thread from the beginning. Most of your questions have been already answered. Please refer back to them.

Let's just say I wash myself and don't just apply a good deodorant.

Hey again smilefairyqueen,
The only one I can remember was that Chinese restaurant that I've already mentioned. We usually ate in Freddie's apartment with meals prepared by that true natural-born chef, Phoebe.
He was able to whip up some great delicacies for us. Also, I was working weekends as a bartender while going to school at a place called "Uncle Charlies Restaurant", a popular place for
that time period. Freddie met me and Lee there a couple of times.

Hi again kokax,
I may have met Mike Stone, but I do not remember his name and he did not go out with our group of five. Also, of course Freddie showed different
sides of himself to different people, don't we all. My personality with Freddie was different from my personality at school and different from my personality
at work, where I had to be overwhelmingly entertaining to get good tips. I did manage to have fun though in all three settings.
I never actually witnessed Freddie creating music, but I am sure he showed his serious side when writing that music and great business skills when he
was with his producers.

Ha ha thomasquinn 32989,
I love your definition of "Marxism"...I got a good laugh.
Well those 2 and a half years were very busy. As I've already mentioned, we occasionally talked about opera. We often talked about our dates. And often talked about how many
of his concerts my group could attend...the flight attendants usually could not make it, so basically it was me and Lee. He told us funny "inside stories" some of which I should not
repeat. And we had various get-togethers and just laughed about stuff current, past, and future. Freddie mostly wanted to keep things light, except when he was having man problems.
Then he would often confide in me quite seriously.

There, I am caught up. I think I will just avoid the "armpit wars" section.

Congratulations. Sounds like its working out very nicely.
Thor: I read the answers but I didn't find anything about talking about the new disease in New York '80-'83 when the first reports came. You talked more about the later times? Weren't you at all concerned during the early days? Or was it more of a west coast problem at first?
Do you remember the very last time you had any contact with Freddie?
