OMG, I always thought the guitar in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egy0CM0ISMo

was just some random sample, but it's actually from the song!

Don't I feel silly now :D
Definitely not silly, the guitars are extremely quiet in the mix at that point, to the point where they're almost inaudible.

Here's another:
I Want It All - After "and I'm giving it all, oooooh" Freddie chuckles at the start of the solo. Very quiet in the normal mix so here it is in an isolated version:

When i bought The Works on LP, i was listening to it on my crappy record player.
And with Radio GaGa, it would always skip some parts because the grooves in the record were too deep.
But it also skipped at the end of the last chorus

Radio, what's new?
Someone still loves you!

So i thought, because the lyrics were in the album sleeve, it said:

Radio, what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!

So, i played it on my parents record player...same thing, so i went back to the store, and switched the album for a new one.
But that one had the exact same problem.
So i went back again, they said the distributor was out of stock but in a few weeks i would get a new one.
So i got a newly pressed, sealed in plastic version of The Works...but that had the problem also.
Later i found out it was an error print in the lyric sheet :-)

This whole story has not a lot to do with the original topic, but i thought it would be fun to mention.

Very recently I discovered that the explosion on In the lap of the Gods and Innuendo explosive version (CD single and 12inch), comes from nuclear blast.

Excellent thread, and one I've been meaning to start for months years.

Since the multitracks, 5.1 rips, and Rock Band stems came on the scene, there's been so much to discover and talk about.

And in more recent years, home producers and remixers have gotten to be incredibly clever at isolating and enhancing individual parts, giving us even more material to dive into. I can still never fathom how these folks are able to do what they do so well really, but I could spend hours/days trawling the web for this kind of stuff.

In fact, thanks to this thread, I've just completely wasted an hour or so listening to some excellent mixes and isolations that this chap here has done: https://www.youtube.com/user/cuc321/videos

Can anyone link me to anyone else on YouTube (or elsewhere) who's creating content like the above chap?

There are too many nuggets like those listed above and those found elsewhere on YouTube for me to comment on now (plus, I'm totally meant to be being productive right now), but let's keep this thread going.

Not really recently, but hearing c_matt's mix of Nevermore a couple years ago was quite revealing - Brian plays arpeggiated eighth notes on electric guitar in the climactic section, which are virtually inaudible in the Roy Thomas Baker mix.
Holy crap - you just blew my mind. I had no idea there was guitar on that song, and now it's clear as day.

I need to download the rest of his mixes, stat !

Nice topic. First time I post here in years!

I only listened to the vocals-only-version of "Somebody to Love" recently and what I heard at 2:02 totally blew my mind - I never heard this in the full version and it truly IS hard to hear:

I wonder how he came up with that nice little ornamentation (and why, since you don't hear it anyway).

Roy didn't mix that song. Robin did.

You should have checked my now defunct website. One of its later incarnations included that piece of info.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

So, based on either listening to the actual track on several different copies versus reading the lyric sheet, you actually came to the conclusion that there was clearly something wrong with the edit, or the manufacturing process on the records rather than the lyric sheet? You must have returned a hell of a lot of records over the years!!!

Haha, i was 12 back in '86, when i bought the record. I didn't know a lot. All i knew is that my record player was not that good.and that the record could have scratch in it. After i switched it, I started to believe the the lyric sheet might be wrong, but i just couldn't believe it, neither did the guys in the store :-)

I have a few that are mostly or only really audible with multitracks, but here goes anyway. Some are mistakes, some are cool bits, and some are just general rarities.

It's A Hard Life - The "yeah yeah" before the first chorus cuts off too soon:
https://youtu.be/ugm9BMWx0c0?t=57 0:57

The Show Must Go On - The keyboards and guitars underneath "my soul is painted..." are fucking beautiful, linked individually:
https://youtu.be/nTkXav1a1Jw?t=168 2:48 (keyboards) - I also taught myself how to play this on the Korg M1. Beautiful part IMO.
https://youtu.be/xKh-Kwx3JWk?t=168 2:48 (guitars)

The Show Must Go On - "I'll soon be turning, 'round the corner now" - the "now" sounds like a different take spliced in:
https://youtu.be/rSvpdej2OlA?t=109 1:49

Long Away - During "Leave it for some hopeless lane" you can vaguely hear Brian's voice trail away from the harmonies, sounds really nice:
https://youtu.be/toq3Tvz9fYc?t=126 2:06

Ride the Wild Wind - In the lead up to the solo, there's some fast guitar playing as the second chorus concludes. Barely audible in the normal song, but it's at the top of the mix in the instrumental version:
https://youtu.be/-yN4PtL19ig?t=156 2:36

Was It All Worth It - The version in The eYe has different "ooo"s and bells in the intro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgkfIn4XdKg

Was It All Worth It (studio version) - Awesome drum fill in the outro:
https://youtu.be/sEhYFnwTciQ?t=316 5:16

Scandal - I don't have an edited version on hand to link here, but turn it way up as it starts to fade out, the guitars get much heavier. No idea why this wasn't included in the song.

You and I - I noticed recently it seems to be a traditional 4 chord song, and the little guitar flourishes during the last chorus are great:
