This reads like a soap opera! I didn't even know people like Dominic cooper were ever even considered.

Yeah it's nuts isn't it. It's had 'what ifs' going back years.

Singer claims that Fox bosses refuse him to take care of his dying parents.

So there were only two weeks left of shooting? It will be finished then is my guess. I read in an article that they had Fox had contacted two directors already.

I sort of get why they want to make this film - they want to get in there before anyone else does it. Unfortunately they missed the boat with the Freddie docudrama put out by Channel 5 last year (which I watched and really didn't like to be honest).
What I can't help thinking about though is, there were a few times when they were asked if they'd consider having a film made about them - I'm almost certain Roger said in the 1980s that he thought such a project would be rubbish. Then on the Queen for an hour interview of '89, Mike Read asked them if they'd consider having a film made about them with themselves in the title roles and Freddie said "oh how boring".
My own personal view is that the documentaries over the years have covered everything. The DoRo documentary of 1995 was actually quite good for the time (compared with other things that they'd tried previously), Magic Years is fairly comprehensive (I think Freddie had said that because the Magic Years already existed there was no need for a film, and the Queen Phenomenon was kind of a cap to the Magic Years).
I'm sure they can finish the film and money won't be an issue, and I understand it's about staying in the public conscience and saying things from their own point of view.... and while I believe in waiting for the finished product before judging, I'm as skeptical as the other skeptics on here about this thing....

It is all due to Rami Malek's bad singing voice. One of the production big bosses said "This singer is going to ruin the movie. We have to get another one". [/QUOTE]
Nah, it definitely was "creative differences". It probably went like this:
Singer: "CUT! Dude, you need to use your tongue! You're not being gay enough! Meet me in my van later, we have SO much work to do."
Malek: "Uhhh... Police!"

I've actually got some hope now for this film, since Twentieth-Century Fox named Dexter Fletcher the new director. I'd never heard of him before, but he's directed three very well received films, including one that has a music heavy soundtrack. Plus, he's British. Would have been nice if he'd been involved from the beginning.
Glad that he has at least one biopic under his belt.

Dexter Fletcher will be an interesting choice, seems he's onboard

Hopes aren't high TBH. Fletcher seems to make small London centric films - I dunno, maybe that will add some pseudo grit.
And of course he was also in Bugsy Malone so fingers crossed.

Dexter Fletcher was originally slated a few years back to direct the film but it fell through...quite hopeful that he will get some grittiness and realism into this actually
