What is that weird noise in the first second of the studio version, I am very surprised it made it on to the News Of The World album sounds like a really bad edit, have a listen ?

I always thought it was a bad edit too, like Freddie was already playing piano when the tape op pressed "play" or something. Maybe I was led to believe that because something similar happened on the Hollywood cassette version of NOTW at the beginning of "It's Late", where a few notes are cut off in the intro.

There is a similar external sound in the first second of Dancing Queen by Abba. They say it was music they were listening to in the studio to get them in the mood for recording.

The song used to start with the sound of a party whistle. But they edited it out. The bit we hear is just that little bit of room reverb as the whistle trails out.. maybe.

I always thought the song had an ambience of being recorded in a smoky bar with Freddie in the corner on the Piano

Good for you. Totally irrelevant to this thread but a nice thought.

Yeah, after everyone’s gone, in an empty bar named “The Emerald” that's being swept up by a guy named “Sammy”... Wait, could NOTW be some kind of concept album??? ;-)
