Hi folks!

Here’s another humble upload. I was recently asked to share the full Brian May interviews from 1998 on Spanish radio and while I was at it, I checked some other recordings and these are my findings: three different radio programs, four different sources.

1998-06-XX Spanish radio

1 Sleeping On The Sidewalk - Tie Your Mother Down - Last Horizon (1998-06-03 Onda Diez)
2 España (1998-06-03 Gomaespuma M80) ^
3 ''Something Gentle'' (1998-06-03 Gomaespuma M80) ^
4 Tie Your Mother Down (1998-06-03 Gomaespuma M80) ^
5 ''Goodbye'' (1998-06-03 Gomaespuma M80) ^
6 Hammer To Fall (1998-06-14 Cadena 100) - incomplete, higher quality ^
7 Hammer To Fall (Cadena 100) - complete, lower quality

Full interviews (from José Alberto Adrados Sanz)
1 Brian May interview at Gomaespuma on M80 radio (1998-06-03)
2 Brian May interview on Cadena 100 radio (1998-06-14)

I realised that “Hammer To Fall” is the same performance from two different sources. Surprisingly, it must have been broadcasted at some other point in time separately, since you can see it doesn’t fade out into the interview (I wonder if there’s more where it came from, but that’s unlikely). More importantly, the second version is one minute longer and complete, albeit lower quality.

I provide the performances separately for convenience (as they were originally shared on my Unusual Collection Volume 5: Unusual Bonuses compilation) but they have been altered moderately in order to improve the sound quality. Feel free to listen to these fun bits from the original source if you’re so inclined. I don’t have any real info on lineage other than cassette tapes were used and that tracks 2-6 and the interviews are a first generation lossless source.

1998-06-28 Virgin radio

1 Interview - On My Way Up
2 Why Don't We Try Again (you might have seen this one mislabeled as "demo")
1998-06-28 Brian May on Virgin Radio, Ray Cokes Show - transcription

I also have these two very old files, which feature two nice performances and a fun short interview too. I’ve included a transcription for your convenience as well.

This is just Brian on the radio in June 1998. There’s more interesting material from that summer (the VH1 acoustic session and the BBC multitracks sessions) but it’s been widely shared over the years, so this is my little grain of sand from “Another World” album’s promo era. If I have left anything else worth having (preferably interviews with performances), please share! Thank you.

Thanks a lot! Remember that period in time like it was several years ago... but not 20!

I guess this is sort of a 20th anniversary thing then :-) I've got a pretty much perfect source of the VH1 acoustic session (there are many sources around and many don't do it justice) and perhaps we can do something with it.

Also, a friend just told me he probably has the full Onda Diez program in his old archive. I hope he can send me something new soon.

I guess nobody has ever come across a lossless version of the Virgin radio session.....?
I never have. :(

^It's inherently lossy though, since Brian streamed his appearance from home through ISDN. You can only hope for a Brian May official boxset to include that.
