Is there a reason why Freddie didn't use a radio mic before 1986 as his main microphone on stage ?

I always heard that the wireless microphones were too big for the adapter on his mic stand. Which is why he used only the wireless mic by itself like on Tokorozawa ‘82

Also I don't think Freddie ever used a wireless mic in a video it was always a regular mic with the wire cut off.

Magic Years out take:
Freddie:
This one...this 'course is a custom mike. This is my radio...unit....
Jim:
Oh, I see....
Freddie:
So I strap this...this piece on, you know, right down in here when I'm on stage and....
Jim:
It's a wireless.
Freddie:
Wireless, exactly. And...uh I can play without all the mucky-muck.
Jim:
You can run anywhere on stage with that.
Freddie:
Exactly.

As pointed out above they were pretty big before 1986, theoretically Freddie could have had one custom built to use the whole microphone stand to house the electronics, but then there was the far harder to combat problem of interference on the FM band.

Reliability and the fact that the sound wasn't reproduced as accurately as it was with a cable until later, Brian also prefered a cable until much later for the same reasons, now he actually gets some of his 'sound' from the way the radio unit pushes the signal into a higher gain which he likes and irronically can't get with a cable.

I wonder could Freddie of used the same type of radio mic David Bowie used at Live Aid before 1986 as his main mic ?

Jim Beach said Freddie wanted a wireless mic back in 1985 and they were working on it and hey presto Freddie got his wish for the Magic Tour!
Back in the early days Freddie always got his cables tangled in a knot and he ended up pulling massive lumps of cable around the stage until ratty exchanged mics.[/QUOTE]
He was using one during parts of Hot Space tour.

I am sure there's a quote from Peter Freestone saying Freddie didn't trust technology all that much, and he liked dial telephones, and preferred wired mics because he couldn't see how the sound would travel without a wire? I'm absolutely certain Peter Freestone said that, but whether or not Freddie thought that is a different matter since we know the entourage have spoken shite on many occasions now.

But wasn't that without the stick? Milton Keynes looks like he keeps getting passed them as they try and get him back onto his "main" when it was intermittently failing.
