Queen In Montreal 1981 alt Video/Angles?

I recently bought We Will Rock You the original DVD from 1997 and for some reason I noticed different angles or video during God Save The Queen and noticed this is also on the 2001 dvd release. I was wondering what the story is of the 2nd night or the rest of the footage they took in monteal on the 2 nights.

Here’s a little review:

0:29 - Seems to be a different angle to GSTQ or Boh Rhap ending. Could be from any night.

0:34 - Again a slightly longer angle from the second night.

0:37 - The shot of the audience could be from any part of the concert or any night.

0:44 - Is actually a different angle to the ending of Boh Rhap.

0:50 - Again a different angle to GSTQ from the second night.

0:53 - This ‘goodbye’ is from the first night (see audience bootleg).

Except from a slightly different angle at 1:00, nothing is different from this point.

Not sure why they decided to purposely make the ending longer but whatever lol, this was corrected to a normal length in the official release.

This is the finest DVD release of a Queen concert (although Brian had rejected it by default because he was not consulted).
The surround mix by Ted Hall has great dynamic, far better than the 2007 version, and it's a nice variation from the omnipresent team of Justin Shirley-Smith & Kris Frederiksson.

Maybe lawyer reasons? That's usually the answer to most things outside of power and money...

Allright. The video is still great, despite the years since first dvd come. But the audio mix is very very crappy.

I LOVE the mix on the "We Will Rock You" dvd. To quote one review of this particular dvd, "It sounds like it was recorded yesterday".

The dry/in your face mix really suits it. I find the "Queen Rock Montreal" version to be way too swampy with reverb.

Also, the visuals are much warmer and more natural compared to the washed out blu ray.

The WWRY visuals have a more natural colour palette. That's because the 2007 release was very tampered with. The audio is dry and in your face. Whether it suits it I don't know, depends on what you want to hear. I really dig the 2007 audio, in my opinion it sounds exactly like how a concert should sound. That said, in the ReGrade I made I altered the colours and included both audio mixes.

Fair enough. It's down to personal preferences. I know Brian has always felt previous releases had been too dry.

I personally like that type of mix better...it's more "hi-fi" to my ears, whereas the newer release has things like audible slap back added to the lead vocals to give it a "live" feel when, in my opinion, there was no reason to add it.

LIke the Knebworth mix of Under Pressure, all that delay on the lead vocals after certain phrases which was a stylistic choice but sounds contrived to me. I sound like a purist or something. :-p

I don't know how dry are the mixes but i know how sour are the grapes.

I think the people who did the Rock Montreal release maybe didn't know Freddie's skin wasn't white, so balanced the picture to make him peach coloured and everyone else is too yellow as a result.
I can't think of any other reason they would deliberately tint the thing yellow.

Then Brian, being a Simpsons fan, approved it.

I think in some case a live soundman might add effects like reverb and delay to certain phrases. With the knebworth UP it certainly matches the bootlegs.

Yeah the sound people often do that, such as on the audience boot of Wembley during "A Kind Of Magic". That up front delay isn't there on the official recording.

When I saw Metallica, they had really loud delay returns on "Sad But True", but on the official recording that you get to download, which someone (the live sound guy?) mixed after the show, the delay returns were very faint. I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't the mix I remembered but like I said, it's a stylistic choice.

As far as "Under Pressure" from Knebworth goes, here's a comparison of a couple of the loudest delay bits with the audience recording.

It's audience/Rah single mix/audience/Rah single mix.

Audience - "Whyyyyy" *vocal silence*

Official Mix - "Whyyyyyy whyyyyy whyyyyy whyyyyyy"

Audience - - ....torn. *vocal silence* Whyyyyy? *vocal silence* WHYYYYYYYYYYY?!" *vocal silence*

Official Mix - "...torn torn Why? why? WHYYYYYY?! whyyyyyyy?!"
