Have any of you been issued with a backdated VAT invoice?
Apparently, they forgot to charge VAT on their invoices for three months and are asking sellers to make a one-off payment to cover the mistake. Has this happened to you, too?
As far as I'm aware, UK buyers have no obligation to pay backdated VAT if a company has made a mistake. We can consider the initial amount to have included VAT if there was no seperate VAT line on the bill.
I've been hit with a request to pay quite an amount in one go. I didn't know they hadn't charged the VAT as they bill in USD and the exchange rate isn't always the same. I always pay on time.
Would you pay it retrospectively? They're just assuming that we can afford to foot the bill, in one go. There is no pay-up scheme and as I say, don't think we're actually obliged.
