Hey everyone,
A while back I created a compilation of footage from the NOTW documentary based around Houston '77. This is basically a more refined version of that and should actually be better quality. Bearing in mind these are all snippets and came without accompanying audio. Some of these may be slightly incorrect but it's the best that can be done.
Timestamps:
0:00 - Pre-Show Setup
0:06 - Tunnel Walk From Changing Room to Stage
0:50 - We Will Rock You (Slow)
1:27 - A Day At The Races Overture
1:57 - We Will Rock You (Fast)
2:29 - Love Of My Life
2:43 - '39
2:49 - My Melancholy Blues
2:57 - White Man
3:03 - Now I'm Here
3:07 - Bohemian Rhapsody
3:28 - Tie Your Mother Down
3:36 - Sheer Heart Attack
3:52 - Jailhouse Rock
4:33 - God Save The Queen

Looks pretty spot on for me.
Now that it has audio, this may well be the best quality 70s footage of Queen. It looks like it was filmed yesterday. It's so much nicer than the footage done on 2" tape.
A shame it's so fragmentary, but this 5 minutes of footage is glorious. Thanks for posting !

What was this shot on? 16mm?

That's my guess.
Considering how expensive 35mm was (and considering how hundreds of hours of film were reportedly shot over those couple months at Shepperton and on the road) 16mm is likely the answer.
But again, the film has very little has grain, so maybe the BBC coughed up the coin for the good stuff?

Thanks for this compilation! The footage is absolutely amazing...I just wish there was more of it! Amazes me that we can only get such teases of footage of the kind that you dream about.

Seems Queen productions do not want the fans to get the best stuff on Dvd.

Thanks Chin! Amazing footage. One question, though. There is some more footage from Houston after the concert, like Freddie talking about Brian's problems during Liar or about whistle while they are in the dressing room or something, just after the show. Was that a deliberate decision not to include this?

For this I just decided to use footage from the actual concert only. :)

My favourite shot is 1:25 to 1:27, where the camera zooms out from Brian and simultaneously pans to the full stage view. This crew definitely audited the show for a few nights and knew exactly how to get the right shots like this one.
I'd kill to see the rest of this footage.

Remember that after the documentary was shown last year during a Q&A session a fan asked maker Rhys Thomas if there was footage left on the cutting room. His reply was that there's wasn't much left to be used but that's lie. Yes maybe there were looking for the best footage to be used but there is so much more which he didn't tell the fans about. But i guess that he was allowed that much by Jim Beach.

Wow - that's hard to believe, as he has been otherwise quoted speaking about the mountain of footage he had the pleasure of seeing.
But even if he isn't taking doctor's orders, it's pretty common for these kinds of guys to downplay how much more footage there is when speaking with superfans, just to get them off their back.

Another fun fact about the Harris footage:
On the 2017 version it just looks so much better than the 2011 documentary. They kept it at 4:3 instead of cropping it to 16:9, and the colours are much more vibrant.
Maybe they baked the tapes and got a better transfer to digital? Or maybe they did some colour correction post. Either way, the quality is just marvellous.
Everyone is quick to condemn QPL when they mess things up, but they really got it right here.
