- Bands like Queen, Rod Stewart or Yes, received "only" 100.000 Dollar for their Gigs.
- the PA System ( 70.000 Watts/ 220 speakers) was flown in from America( or parts of it). Queen / Michael Jackson already used that PA (or
parts of it) on their past US tours.
- 3000 headlights.
- the preparations of the festival terrain took five months. Drying the place, building a wall etc.
- 6.6 million Dollars were generated by ticket sales ( guessing by the promoter Roberto Medina).
- MCDonald`s sold 58189 Hamburgers on one day. At that point a record in their franchise history.
- Licenses for MCD,Mister Pizza or Bob`s and others cost 150.000 Dollar each.
-For a "Video Center" the tobacco company "Souza Cruz", paid 330.000 Dollar.
- According to "Music-Records" the most notable difference between Rock in Rio and ordinary Rock festivals - toilets with a real flush.

Hi
I've seen a video of the rehearsal in Rio. The rehearsal was a couple of days before the show. 15/20 minutes if I recall correctly.
IMO one of the best short (loose) performances, Freddie nailed it! Even though it was "just" a rehearsal.
Anybody seen it? Did it surfaced somewhere? I think this one is a gem.
Take care, TA!

no, I think you are confused with Live Aid rehearsal. There are no 15 minutes of Rock in Rio rehearsals from Queen that I've seen the last 30 years or so...

This is all I know of. About one minute with a lot of voice overs.

The PA was hired from Clair Brothers, the company Queen had used since the mid 70's (still do)
The speaker cabs would have been used by many other bands from Queen to Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson and others. It consisted of Clair S4 cabs, their standard speaker cab which was in use from the mid 70's into the 90's.
Rating it at 70,000 watts for Rio seems a bit far from the mark. Queen's current touring rig is rated at 80,000 watts and The Magic tour used 500,000 watts (speaker handling power) for the largest out door shows. I'm guessing the 70.000 Watts you've quoted should have been 700,000 watts. The size of the field was huge.
On the two nights that Queen headlined they used their Works stage set and Lighting there were not 3,000 lamps in that rig.

I wonder, for the public present there the sound was as bad as in all the released footage?

How many cameras were used? I know that a camera would add 10lb so I wonder how many were pointing at Freddie?

Yeah, it seems that you`re correct with that numbers and facts. I just took it as the article claims. It was surly a mistake by the writer.

I doubt it - the sound in the venue bears no semblance to the recorded audio; they are two different set ups.
