Listening to every single Queen song really teaches you to see who wrote each song. I want your guys' opinions.

Freddie seems to write songs in either a ballad manner, or something fantastical. His songs also have a story most of the time. A number of his songs also seems to induce audience participation.

Brian's songs typically seem to focus from a male's specific perspective of girls/women. His other work is aligned with Freddie's in using audience participation.

John's work seems to have a funk theme over them, and also have some kind of personal theme to them. Other than that, it's kind of a variety.

Roger's songs are almost always rock 'n' roll themed. If not r'n'r then very teenage experience, teenage angst, etc. His songs always seem to be on their own.

While they did have separate fingerprints and approaches, it's never as simple as 'if it's funky it's John's, if it's got audience participation it's either Brian's or Frederick's, etc.'
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

That's true, but it's typically easy to tell who wrote the song when you're listening to it.

Those themes certainly help determine who's written something. I'll add that most of Roger's 70's rock n roll tunes are in minor keys, and are guitar driven. John definitely shows the clearest Motown influence, and the majority of his lyrics are in some way about wanting to be free or wanting to be alone with the one he loves (quite telling, really).

Freddie's style of writing songs were based around his love life, so if things were bad for him in a relationship then he would write ballads like "Its a hard life" or with John "i want to break free" was rumoured to be around the fact that he was wanting to get away from the band as he was stressed out with it all.

Ah yes, our brilliant mind Mr Right pontificating the great insight that Freddie wrote songs based around his love life. Notable examples include I Want To Break Free, even though it wasn't written by him at all, and such obvious love-songs as Death On Two Legs, Ogre Battle, Flick Of The Wrist, We Are The Champions and Bicycle Race.

Effing idiot.
