i think i heard john singing into the mic at around 4:50-4:53... i've never heard brian sound like that and it clearly couldn't be freddie or roger.
NO. I don't think you heard John "singing".... ;-) LOL

It looks as if they've spliced the footage just as Freddie finishes the line (look at Freddie playing the piano) :) -Chin
The audio in the backstage room is also completely off

The audio on the concert itself is also a tiny bit off :)

This is great footage, but it may also be the worst rendition of WATC that Ive heard. That was a bit painful to be honest.

3 months later in Japan, his voice was even worse.

The good quality here makes it even more evident. But this is pretty average for the period. Mercury's voice wasn't great for much of 77-79.

Ahem. What about his voice throughout almost the entire News of the World Tour?

Yeah, even late 1978 isn’t too bad but early ‘79 shows like Dortmund and Brussels aren’t too hot but the April and May Japan shows are a no go! Haha

Yep, he was great for most of NOTW.

But for much of ADATR and Jazz he wasn't up to par.
