A mate has an 8 string bass he bought in the 1970s. The case has 'The Opposition' written on it.
He has recently found that John Deacon played with a band so called, but he lives 200 miles or so from Leicester.
Is anyone aware if JD ever played a Hagstrom 8 string bass, which were a bit of a niche instrument in the 1960s/70s (Hendrix, Mike Rutherford, Lemmie to name 3).

I know nothing about this but this doesn't look dissimilar to the Hagström.

But of course there are people here who might know these things.

Just, rereading the history of The Opposition. John mostly played guitar before they change their name. The original bassist was Clive Castledine so it is even likelier the this is his instrument. The only bass I see mentioned is an Eko.

Thanks for the photo link. I have now read up on The Opposition history. Fun days for us all back then I think. It seems there was another local band call The Opposition so the original was renamed New Opposition but reverted back.

This is a link to a pic of the case: It had a few letters missing when I bought it over 40 years ago and it has travelled a bit since then but mostly it has been in the proverbial attic.

And here's a link to a pic of the guitar, which is in good condition but just stripped down for a service and to have 8 new strings fitted.

Thanks for the replies.

ps please ignore anything else in the case, including the GLA (Glasgow) aircraft luggage ticket, they are my additions since purchase in mid 70s.
