I find it somewhat hard to believe that You're My Best Friend only reached #16 on the US charts when it was released, given how much it's still played on USA stations, on classic rock/variety/oldies stations.
Was the song more popular on release than the chart showed? It would seem more like a top 10 in the US. I know it hit 7 in the UK charts.

I'm really surprised that they haven't played that song live as that's a Queen song that EVERYBODY knows because it's always on the radio. I went to a Queen Extravaganza concert a few years ago and everybody there was singing along with it. (It was at Gloucester, and a show that Brian attended so they definitely know it's popular with audiences.)

It received a ton of airplay. It's a superb Top 40 radio song.
Then again, most already had purchased ANATO. So, why buy that 45?

Fat Bottomed Girls only hit 24, but I hear that frequently. Oddly enough, it's always the album version

According to Brian, at one particular time, it had been the most played song on American radio.

The song is great because:
1- It's short, songs under three minutes almost guaranteed radio airplay
2- It's lyrics are sweet, it won't offend anyone
3- It's more pop then rock 'n' roll, songs that were too heavy were 'banned' airplay in the mornings

Meh, same as DSMN which has become an anthem when no one gave 2 shits a few years ago. Time is a funny thing...

Queen most failed chart placed single and album is a success for other artists and bands. For example Kiss, Iron maiden 80s charts Judas Priest. Even the few Led Zeppelin singles not albums which were huge.
