Hi,

**Disclaimer: I am new to this board and this is my very firstest post, so I apologize in advance if I'm asking something that has already been answered elsewhere. Please don't eat me.**

So, I started listening to Queen about six weeks ago. Purely by somewhat-creepy chance, I got up on the morning of November 24th (yes, I know) and sat on the couch to watch tv. I never do that because I always feel like I should be doing something more productive and I have a hard time choosing something to watch on demand. I pulled up Amazon Video and one of the suggestions was either a documentary about Queen or Freddie Mercury, I don't remember which. I should say that, up to that point in my life (I am 40), I believed that I actively disliked Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody? Barf City. But for whatever reason, I put the movie on. And then, yeah. I found out I kind of loved them. Maybe I fell in love. Who knows? Anyway, I've been obsessively watching everything I can find on them; documentaries, fake documentaries; weird made-for-tv movies; and listening to their music non-stop. I don't want to see Bohemian Rhapsody because I believe that, at this point in my infatuation, only the real thing will do. I've been focusing a lot on live shows where Freddie's voice is all squeaky and messed up because I find it weirdly adorable, but now I'm in the mood to hear some shows where he just kills it and I was hoping to get some suggestions on which shows fit the bill.

Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

Hi jakepuppy2 (Theresa)

Welcome to this forum. A couple of years ago, someone on Queenzone posted a fairly long list of documentaries. I was grateful for the list. Here is the link to that page. I am not sure if anyone has made a list of live shows. One of my favorite concerts is: Queen: Rock Montreal. Freddie's voice is AMAZING. His rendition of "Somebody to Love" is my favorite. Also, Queen:Hungarian Rhapsody-Live at Budapest is another great show.

NO, NOT ME - THIS IS MY ONLY ACCOUNT. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH GARBAGE IS POSTED HERE AND SO CALLED INTELLIGENT POSTERS FALL FOR IT.

Wow. You guys are super-good at being nice.

I wonder what the god of your idolatry would think about you treating complete strangers like this in his honor. I don't think he would approve. Of course, I don't know him nearly as well as all of you.

Thanks, spiraltastic. I've listened to bits and pieces of the ones you listed (except maybe Live Aid, although I'm not certain I've watched the entire set), but I'll definitely give them all a complete listen. It's fun to me because there are just SO MANY shows available. I feel like this is an activity I can do for the rest of my life. :P

HOW CAN U FOCUS ON THE ONES WHERE FREDDIE IS SQUEAKY AND MESSED UP WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE LIVE SHOWS? YOU'D NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WERE LOOKING FOR TO FIND THEM AND MISS THE GOOD ONES.

I am going to respond to you as though you are asking me an actual question and not just trying to be a dick. This is likely an error in judgement on my part, but I'm willing to play along because this is not life and death we're discussing here.

I think all of the shows are "good ones." I'm not passing judgment on Fredide's voice in one show vs. another. I think it's kind of endearing and brave and sweet that he went out there night after night and tried every time no matter what. I had the thought recently of why he would try to sing certain things knowing that it probably wasn't going to happen and my opinion is that it's just how he was. He wasn't afraid to not be perfect. That speaks to me because I am *not* that way, but I think it would be a nice way to be. I'd like to try to implement in my life an attitude of being willing to be vulnerable and try things at 100%, regardless of the outcome. So maybe that's why the shows where his voice breaks or cracks or vanishes speak to me. It's really my business, but there you go.

I'm not sure how I came to be aware that some shows sound different than others. I imagine it was from a search about Freddie's voice in general. There is a nice (in my opinion) post on Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/queen/comments/8f0rsg/freddie_mercurys_vocal_timeline_19691991/ - about this exact subject, so I am guessing that's where I got the information regarding which shows had those attributes.

I am happy to continue my own research. I just thought it might be interesting to get other people's opinions on what their favorite shows might be. I'm not sure how this immediately went off the rails.

I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A DICK, YOU JUST COME ACROSS AS TOO SWEET TO BE WHOLESOME, INNOCENTLY ASKING FOR DIRECTION ON THINGS YOU SEEM TO ALREADY KNOW ABOUT.

TO ME YOU'RE TRYING TO MAKE A FOOL OF PEOPLE WHO ARE TAKING YOU ON AS BEING GENUINE. IN OTHER WORDS, ANOTHER QZ TROLL, OR MAYBE JUST ANOTHER ACCOUNT OF A REGULAR TROLL.

FOR SOMEONE WHO'S ONLY BEEN A FAN FOR 6 WEEKS, YOU SEEM VERY HAZY ON WHERE YOU LEARNED STUFF. IT'S NOT THAT LONG AGO YOU STARTING LISTENING APPARENTLY SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RECALL HOW YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ME.

There are many unwarranted presumptions about personal authenticity here. Let’s give this person a break. Me, I would go beyond some of the official releases. Tokyo May 1 1975, Boston 76, Houston 77 Hammy Xmas ‘79 are all great as they show the band as a unit in top form and are very good quality as bootlegs. I would also recommend having a listen to the band’s support shows for Mott the Hoople as you can hear the hunger and determination to impress in their performances. Enjoy the journey and ignore the bullshit. Cheers!
