The Hi-Res CD format, which is exclusive to Japan, was introduced in June 2018 and combines MQA with UHQCD formats.
A bit more information from CD Japan:
Features the 96kHz/24bit master in 2011 by Bob Ludwig. The DSD master is available in 88.2kHz/24bit resolution (perfect for MQA-enabled audio players). Green color label coating. Slim case obi packaging. *The disc can also be played on regular CD players in UHQCD 44.1kHz/16bit resolution. However, MQA-enabled hardware/software is necessary to harness the full potential of this Hi-Res CD.

The same usual pointless commercial thing over and over again.

essentially in this case yes. japan already has the sacds... MQA is design for Hi-Res streaming........... look at Tidal - this is why MQA was developed. Japanese getting the streamable compressed hi-res files on yet another CD format is beyond pointless. do they buy anything over there? SHM-CD, Blu-Spec, ithink there was even K2 for a brief period, whatever that was.
