the guitar riff is so catchy. Its one of the first time Queen went into Disco

The song "Fun It" is utter shit.

it's better than most of the songs on hot space

When I bought the Jazz LP in '78, it was an instant favourite. I loved the changes between the vocals of Rog and Fred, all it needed was Mack to produce it. Who doesn't like to groove?

if you like Fun It - and unfortunately i don't - but you want to listen to a band that really takes it that level successfully and is not too dissimilar to Queen's style - you should try Sparks. The are probably the most underrated band period.

Fun It is more Over-Hated than Under-Rated ...
I quite enjoy Fun It as a joyous diversion.

Explain the Spark connection?

No “connection”... but they were active during the same eras... their music in the 70s was challenging, and had a similar dynamic as queen’s music. Clearly not as successful, mainly tongue in cheek. Listen to This Town Isn’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us - it’s sort of the road less travelled to Killer Queen. And from there I find their music sort of paralleled Queen but we’re nowhere near as good as Queen. But what they lacked in songwriting, they made up for in spontaneity. Basically, like Queen and Bowie, they were genre-bending.
The only reason I bring it up is that for a “rock/pop” band they killed at disco - listen to #1 in Heaven (album). Probably one of the greatest (if not the greatest) disco albums ever produced...
Driving back to my point, if you think Fun It is a great Queen song... Sparks is the band for you.

I know Sparks inside out - I just wondered why Fun It is in any way Sparks-like. Terminal Jive maybe?

But yes I totally agree about the similar dynamics and career parallels between Sparks Queen and Bowie

I thought Roger hated disco as he moaned at "Hot Space" ?

Most enjoyable when played very loud, driving very fast

I'm a huge fan of Jazz, but not keen on Fun It. That 'vibe' was done better later - and perhaps of everything on the record that could've been the non-album B side. That said, I love it's part in the MOTJ medley - and I really think it would've added to Live Killers if they had used a version of KYA with Fun It over the intro

Just Roger farting about with the 'E' chord innit? Like he did with MOTJ and FFTI. Quite an uninspired and mediocre trio of songs to my humble ears.
