Hi Vicky yep I totally agree , it was a flippant remark . It was an interview afterall so I doubt he have said ' David , you know I'm gay and so I won't be having the normal 2.5 marriage and children ' lol
Back to piers again I confirm that it was Mary who said her men felt they were living in Freddie's shadow . Being as Mary said this I take it to be what she felt had happened in her relationships.
Jo.t I've seen Brian in his mask , it's pretty scary and I love that he is embracing performing . He adores Adam
Given the interest in queen and Freddie at the moment I'll be surprised if 'as it began ' isn't updated and reprinted . Bloomsbury are putting 'mercury and me ' back into print .
Amidds what a gem of an interview. Thank you
Doughnut, I totally agree with you.Mary was a prisoner and still is to this day.I just dont understand it makes me waunder if she was that strong of a woman to begin with.To me if your a truly strong woman you could handle working for an ex and moving on with your life with success. If it bothered you that much a sensible thing to do would be remove yourself from that situation. To me she seemed to ride Freddie's fame once he made it big.She wasnt willing to let that go at all costs even if it were her own happiness.
Rainbow61 thanks for the greeting! I do remember the 8-track tapes but I never owned one. I have a 21 year old son who has been listening to Johnny Cash lately, I love his deep voice. He’s been playing his songs on the guitar too. I love it.
Only one concert at the Nassau Colliseum remains a little hazy and that was the Grateful Dead concert my girlfriend made me go to, no words to describe that event!
I wish I could have seen Queen of course ,but my love for them started the moment I saw Freddie on TV singing Radio Gaga back in 1985.....to late to see them live, at least in the US.
As a teen I would go often with my friends to the mall. Now it’s mostly my kids who go....Is BDalton downstairs near Macy’s? Anyway, it would be fantastic if Thor and Lee would do a book signing there or at the Barnes and Noble just down the road. I’m anxiously waiting for its release!
Terri, I think you and I may be about the same age I kind of remember 8 tracks as well and I love Johnny Cash.He is the man the man in black.
Chevyman Hi! Yes Cash was an outlaw and Freddie, a rule breaker, which made him so original and innovative. These guys were fearless! ,which makes them so enticing, well that and their talent. In Freddies case, his looks and the way he moved, just took him to another level for me.
I went from buying vinyl 45’s and albums to buying cassettes and finally CD’s. I think, one of my friends had an 8 track player in his car ! So cumbersome, those tapes were so big and bulky.
Terri, I like those bad boys that's what gets me in trouble.I like them a whole lot.Cash was gorgeous.I dont even like men with dark hair and there was just something about him.The more the man's life seemed to fall apart the more attracted to him I became.I love that whole story with him and June Carter. He was a balls out kinda guy just like Freddie. You can't cage a bird they hate it they are always trying to break out of their cages. That always reminds me of Freddie there was no stopping that man he did what he wanted. If one could learn anything or take anything away from the way he lived off stage it would be be yourself.
I completely agree about “finding the right girl” and since he referred to his male friends as ‘girls’ figure anyone who knew him knew exactly where he was coming from. ( like when he dedicated an Elton John song to Sharon... hysterical-he seemed to know exactly what he was doing). One of the questions I was holding on to fit Thor and Lee is whether he ever talked about the duality of being a public and private person. Its amazing how cleverly he navigated and managed it all. Of course I have read others accounts too.
Jo T. Sounds like you had a great time in Chicago!!!
Would have loved to have seen them once more so glad you got to!!
General question to all. Been curious about this:
Bijou. Anyone know if (come across anything indicating) that Bijou was written for Jim. ?? especially given the story in Jim’s book (mentioned on the first/Thor thread around page 107 in nov 2017) believe it was in 1991 When they were in Montreaux watching TV and Jim says that Freddie asked if they would be together forever echoing a line in the movie they were watching and the song lyric about being together forever. I’m not sure about exact timing of conversation and song. Believe Bijou means jewel (?) I also saw the reference on here to the bird, which is really cool too.
Terri Radio Ga ga is the first song from queen that I have a,real memory of because I remember wondering why 'radio ga ga ' off course all.these years later I know why lol .
Barnes and noble rings a bell . Although I'm in the UK it seems familiar. Is it a famous store ?
Terri and a Doughnut. I love the early recollections you have! I remember hearing Bohemian Rhapsody as a little kid and being drawn in to the emotion I was almost afraid, wondering why they wouldn’t let him go. Of course I still remember how I felt watching the live aid performance too, was really our only chance to see them perform, other than in videos. I sure did feel instantly drawn in and a part of it and in on the joke (with the camera man) :-).
Terri. Welcome. I’m fairly new here too. As you can probably tell already, such a great, welcoming, knowledgeable group ...
JT, That cyborg suit Brian wears during his performances are a little strange.Whats it look like in person. He is brilliant though very creative mind .But I have to say the man in the back has it by a long shot and yes I'm talking about our beautiful Roger Taylor. He is a man a few words.
JB, Bijou was written by both Freddie and Brian in an attempt to write a song “inside out”, lyrics where guitar solos usually are. SInce Freddie was responsible for the lyrics, he could’ve meant anything tho Brian said that his mom had a bird by that name.....I always think of FM saying about his songs, “if you see it darling, it is there!” It would be nice if it was about Jim, he seemed like such a wonderful, kind person and I’m sure he would’ve loved that!
That's the beauty about songs they may mean one thing to one person and something totally different to someone else.
