What's Brian playing here?

This is from his solo spot in Essen 1980, just before he gets into Battle Theme off the Flash Gordon soundtrack.

Is he just noodling, or is this an actual song ? The audience seems to react as if they recognize what's going on. It almost sounds like Free Bird, but not quite.

Yeah that does sound like the sort of thing we should recognise. Are the Scorpions from Essen or something?

Scorpions are from Hannover, btw it sounds a bit like "Always Somewhere" one of their ballads from "Lovedrive"

That's your Freddie fanboy truncated perception, combined with the lack of comprehending that the electric guitar as a whole it has the same importance as Freddie.

It’s more than just jamming. It could be a song fans from Essen/Germany are supposed to know.

It definitely sounds like a song that the locals might know. The audience may be cheering for whatever reason but somehow it feels more like an actual song rather than a jam. Perhaps it's simply not too accurate and it's hard to recognise because of that.

Of course they were still glam in 1980. Nothing says glam like blue jeans.

You obviously do not know much about Queen and yes Brian did treat fans to a few extra guitar licks in the 80s.

I also agree.

I’m not well versed in kraftwerk... but i’d bet that Brian was taking a stab at mimicking their keyboard sound on his guitar and then gave up at the end.
