Ironically, he calls the Mercury News reporter condescending, while referring to him as "sonny jim" :D You couldn't make it up.
And in an instagram post he says fans who don't support Lambert and want a "freddie impersonator" instead haven't stopped to think clearly. Thanks for offering that false binary choice Brian! And it's really lucky you didn't pick a gay flamboyant singer to front the band instead of Fred!

Pretty sure that's in response the Martel fans constantly trolling his a/c with their "should be Martel" "swap Adam for Marc" comments. Don't blame him they're relentless, ignorant and pathetic. And regardless of Adam being gay and flamboyant he neither sounds nor acts like Freddie so his point is valid.

My gay and flamboyant comment was a bit of humour you seem to have missed. My main point is that it's not a binary choice between an impersonator and lambert, as paul rodgers proved previously. Both Brian and Roger tend to put up straw arguments to knock over while diverting attention away from genuine points of criticism. It's all about controlling the message and to be fair to them, they are good at it. Jim Beach taught them well.

I understand where he's coming from. Just let them enjoy themselves and being touring musicians because it won't last much longer.

Maybe you should direct that comment to Brian. If he hadn't gotten pissed off at the journalist's innocuous remark, and gone public, then it wouldn't be out there. His remarks also reveal a bit more about how he considers his place in the band, but you're right, lets not talk about that or anything else interesting. Everything's great!

Couldn't agree more Makka.

Roger said in 2008 that he doesn't want to be a karaoke band, so he is glad that they have some new songs to play. Sadly he's forgotten to think about it wit AL... Brian is full of fury, but when even RT used to talk about karaoke, he should think of it..

Brian's annoyance was IMO at the fact that he and Roger were part of Queen, wrote a lot of the songs that are being played as well as Freddie and John, had a huge hand in the actual Queen sound (certainly wouldn't be the same without Bri's unique guitar style) plus the harmonies and vocal layering so to be dismissed as a tribute/cover band would be hurtful IMO. It's not just the reviewer, lots of Queen fans say comments like no Freddie no Queen or they're nothing without Freddie. Imagine how it would feel to have your life's work dismissed like that just because Freddie was the face of the band and the charismatic performer he was. I think Brian had been reading too many dismissive comments on his insta and that was the final straw, he probably overreacted but I can understand where he's coming from. I personally hate when people dismiss Bri, Roger and John as if they were just a backing band.

Fans have every right to consider Queen without Fred (and indeed without John) as something considerably less than all 4 of them together. They even said it themselves pre 1991, that if anyone left it wouldn't be Queen. Then they said it again after Fred died. And they're using the Queen+ brand too, to try to distinguish themselves from the original band. Or at least they make that point when it suits them. Roger said that Queen these days is just a brand. With Rodgers they made new music and toured to promote it. Nowadays they're content to be their own tribute act on the nostalgia circuit. Why Brian is so miffed is because the truth hurts, and these days he's not used to being contradicted, hence the snotty and condescending reply he made to the journalist's review.

Brian has some pretty serious issues. If you can't take this kind of review, which wasn't even negative (!), you just don't have the attitude that you need to be a professional. I really don't know what's going on in Brian's head, but as he's getting older, he really is becoming a bit of a thin-skinned jerk. Too bad. Because his behaviour and his ranting, rather than the touring with AL, are really damaging his reputation and legacy.

He definitely could do with mellowing out a bit and becoming more thick skinned.

I don't really see what's wrong with what he's saying. As two members of SMILE they are essentially the only guys of the three (*ostensibly : owing to the fact John's made no public comment) from the original band willing to be performing.
They did a couple Tours with Paul Rodgers as a treat to Rock and Roll fans and to shake the cobwebs. They're doing a few years tours with this guy as well.
Of course you're going to be upset with someone calling you a cover band. It's dismissive and could lessen a ticket sale/attendee. ...which is what BRoger are after: engaging New audiences on a tour
Though they don't fit MY set of criteria for a band (*New music) they technically are the only QUEEN option short of a tribute act. Dismissing 2/4 members as being their own tribute is kinda low, 2/3 surviving, and one unfortunately being dead.
They're heroes to some of us folks and they're musical icons. Whether novelty or not, their songs are blasted as anthems all around the world:
Nothing wrong with Brian giving an equal dose of condescension.
Sure, he should probably overlook it. But I'll bet he was just happy that morning looking at the papers.
"Can you believe we're still remembered in 2019, still catching covers"
Until he read the remark. At least thats how i take it.
Anyways. This is hardly something he's "lost it again" with.

Maybe.
But considering the current lineup is the two founding members of the band, it's not unreasonable to see how calling it a "tribute band" could be insulting.

Of course, Queen+ are a tribute band. What else? A look on the setlist says it all. People are going the concerts to get a Queen-like experience. That's it Brian. Get used to it.
Oh and please stop ruining Queen's legacy. You ghoul.

A tribute band by definition contains none of the original members and only play covers of other people's music so by definition QAL can't be a tribute band and your comment is exactly the type of thing that probably pushed Brian's buttons.
