Did Freddie play guitar on CLTCL at every show from the first time Queen played it live?

Yes, it was first played on the Crazy Tour, Freddie played an acoustic 12 string Ovation guitar, I believe it was one of Brian's. He continued to play this until The Works Tour during which he played a white Fender Telecaster.

During the Q+PR tours Rodgers played acoustic during CLTCL, I believe it was a Guild. Something which seems to have gone unnoticed by many is that Paul Rodgers actually changed the strumming pattern of Freddie's original intro riff. . .

Cool, thanks for the answer, I wasn't sure if it was the case. Must have been quite a surprise for the audience the first few times Freddie did it, like "Wtf is he doing with a guitar?!"

There are a few instances of Brian also playing the ‘hammer on’ wrong during the D intro too!

Freddie also played it during The Magic Tour, of course. I believe Rodgers used one of those bodiless Yamaha acoustic guitars.

This place used to be great, but now it is an absolute joke. For serious Queen discussion, please visit http://www.queenforum.net

This song was never the same in a live setting after Fred Mandel left.

Yes you're right, both he and Brian played Yamaha "silent" acoustic guitars on CLTCL on their first world tour together. Rodgers changed to a large bodied Yamha acoustic for the Cosmos tour.

This letter sent to the Fan Club by a fan who saw them in December 1979 seems to confirm so. Back then, without Twitter or stuff like that, most people would only find out when they actually saw him on-stage playing it.
