i think there were quite a few back in the day, i remember seeing a couple of Beatles albums (among others) on reel-to-reel.

I'm not (quite) old enough to remember from experience how available they were at retail, but i do recall

I prefer analogue formats, and also prefer reel tape over vinyl and CD (no clicks, pops or skipping for starters).
There are stacks of official 7.5 ips stereo releases by various artists on reel tape, although there were only 3.75 ips 4 track issues of The Game and Greatest Hits.

Some reel tapes can be a tad expensive to buy now, this Pink Floyd 7.5 ips 4 track stereo release sold for $1725 in 2008 on eBay.
