good to see you back, fella. it's been fucking emotional here lately.
yep. more or less. i think i mentioned this "back in the old days of QZ"...75% of the time QII is far and away my favourite Queen LP. Most of the rest of the time it's QI.
TBH, i love almost everything from QI - Jazz (inclusive).
But there is something incredible about I and II - that (for me) they belong with a small collection of other LPs in my collection:
My specials:
Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, Rainbow Rising, Led Zep II and a handful of others.

Queen is a very underrated album..not a bad song on it. Abby Road Is my favorite from the Beatles.

In my opinion, in comparison to other songs through a Day at the Races, Jesus, Modern Times and Son & Daughter are mediocre and comparable to She Makes Me and Sweet Lady.
I don't think the Queen album is in the same class as Queen2, SHA, aNatO, and aDatR.

some of these albums are almost equal but different. Queen 2 was my favorite for the longest time, but some albums have surpassed It over time, though I still love it. I think ANATO, SHA, ADATR, Queen 2 and 1, NOTW, Innuendo, Jazz, The Game, MIH. My top 10. The order changes a lot.

what i like about QI is the energy. it's a band bursting to get their ideas out, racing out of the blocks.
there's also a nice parallel to a band they idolised in their early days - Led Zep.
Some of the guitar/drum interaction is very Zep.
Zep recorded their first LP in 36 hrs! - Queen recorded their first in studio "down time". certainly some similarities.

You mean The Real Wizard and Brenski repeatedly arguing with the same people? The constant need for these people to reply to everything they don't agree with is tiresome, and has gotten worse in the past 6 months or more.[/QUOTE]
thanks for dragging me (as one of two named) into this - there are almost a dozen who attempt to correct the same few - who constantly pass off fiction as fact.
so you would rather some of the myths go unchecked? what's the alternative? let the facts get buried among all of the fables?
i can't speak for others of similar mind, but I'd rather that if these boards were to survive, then any "non-opinion" stuff remained accurate.
and FYI - I've been back (after a 3-year) break for 2 months, so i think your naming me is a little inaccurate here - you said "the last six months or more" - most of which I've not been here. this forum has been in the toilet for the last 5+ years.

I think Modern Times Is one of Roger's best, short and sweet and Heavy..You could make the case Son and Daughter and Jesus are a step below the first 7 tracks but I still like them. The only problem with the album is the obvious Production and could of ended with a stronger song. Always one of my favorites albums, definitely their most heavy album.

MTRnR is a nice little precursor to 70s punk rock. His NOTW (SHA) track expanded this theme a little.
I think the nature of how the LP was recorded affected the production, but (for me) adds a little to the raw charm of the LP.

Lambert has Improved over the years for sure. Keeping the music alive... enjoy you're day!
