Fascinating. How did you do the hand colorization? I have around 30 seconds of black and white footage, to which I have reference color footage, so I am investigating the best way how to colorize it

I used after effects and Masks, So I had the black and white footage as layer 1, then duplicated it and tinted it brown, masked off all the brown areas, feathered the edges of each mask and then did the same with the other colors, the worst to do is get skin tone looking human due to the amount of different hues, but the AI programme does that.

In the past in shots without much motion I've painted on the background in Photoshop and motion tracked it to the footage, then used masks to do the moving things in the foreground, but this time i wanted it to match the colour footage as much as possible.

I'm no expert there's probably an easier way.
I assume you are not bored enough to try the 30 seconds video, right? :-)

AI colorization of short clips surely wasn't what I thought would get me subjected to multiple copyright takedowns and a complete youtube ban.
Wow.

I never realized my country does not have a "fair use" policy. No wonder all foreign lecturers are always frustrated when visiting institutions.

PMA - if you still have access to your channel, fight it. Youtube operates under California laws, the fact that your country doesn't have a fair use equivalent is kind of irrelevant

I'm a bit disappointed that I was never given fair warning that I could just remove infringing material, which I would have done. For some reason they never react to clips from old movies at all, some have been on youtube for 8 years and running. For some reason I received three copyright strikes at once. I don't have access to my channel, glad it didn't have any personal videos of significance. They also banned any accounts I had linked to that channel (one other with a single video of some holiday scenery...)

At least I can still view youtube videos.

Sorry to hear that. For some reason they don't punish the people equally - some people do get a warning about channel deletion 7 days before, others get the channel terminated immediately. And yes, they purge all channels associated with the google account

How unfair!
