The following audio attached is from the Triple M regional feed. 2 second pause between WWRY and WATC is included (Hollywood Records version does that quicker I think).

@TS:
A little context would be nice. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, and it looks like it's not just me.

Playing from digital media they could of had a timer set between tracks as standard so it makes for a longer break? If that's what you're referring to?

if the radio station was playing mp3 files, isn't there a second of silence at each end of a track?

I think what he is saying is that Both songs "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" are played back to back. They do the same thing here in the United States. I love the fact they do this but don't fully understand why. But you don't hear "We are the Champions" without hearing "We Will Rock You".

I’ve hear them combined mostly, but I do hear We Are The Champions played by itself from time to time. It sounds special hearing them both together. Perfect single, and what other bands get two of their tracks played together frequently like that?

you beat me to it. that's a great one! - and it is usually US radio that does this.
what we have so far:
Led Zeppelin: HeartBreaker / Lvin' Lovin' Maid
Queen: We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions
Jackson Browne - The Load Out / Stay
others i know of
Pink Floyd: Brain Damage / Eclipse
Pink Floyd: The Happiest Days of Our Lives / Another Brick In The Wall (pt2)
Bob Seger: Travelin' Man / Beautiful Loser (Live Bullet versions)
i don't know if these would count: - started life as separate songs, but didn't end up that way
5th Dimension: Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In
Guess Who: No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature
There was also this oddity, that I heard on some rock shows in the late 80s. I later bought the Compilation CD it appeared on:

Thin Lizzy: Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song / Cowboy's Song / Boys Are Back In Town. - a whopping 14 minutes of airplay!

WWRY/Champions have usually been played back to back since 1977. Why is this now worthy of note?

exactly. but i suppose showing how common a practice it is will help the OP understand in some way.
