The irony of course is that for a couple of years now Milton Keynes has had motion sensing street lamps along it's redways which light up the path at night as you walk past, so they do dim, turn off and brighten at night now

Which is great for saving energy, but terrifying for anyone not wanting to get mugged on those dark secluded allyways and underpasses.
