I was actually blown away by what this deep learning algorithm is doing.
They gave this A.I. Queen tracks to study and learn and then made it come up with new music.
The funny thing is that it can't (at this time) make up lyrics so they feed it existing ones (or lyrics made up by people)

In this case the lyrics of 'Funny How Love Is'

Jesus, this is astonishing!

How it gets the vocal stylings, melodies, and timbre so on point is just mindbending. And more than a little scary.

Instrumentally, it's not so good, but still utterly incredible.

I think the other Queen track on there is a better effort.

Wow.
Gullibility and credulity are considered undesirable qualities in every department of human life -- except religion.

I hadn't heard this one before, but a month or two ago I was linked to an earlier version of the page through a science article. Some worked freakishly well (Ella Fitzgerald), others not so much (Bob Dylan), but the fact that this is even remotely possible is mind blowing to me.

It seems to me that, allowing for human tweaks when the AI goes off the rails, it'll soon be possible to make convincing and perhaps even justifiable 'new' songs by artists long dead. I have no idea what this is going to mean for music in the long term, but this is breaking new ground to the same extent that the introduction of audio recording was.

What spins me out is how much this is just like how the human brain comes up with stuff, or misremembers songs - sometimes I wake up with a 'loop' of a song in my head, and I'm not even sure where the hell it's from or how it's been chewed up. It's one of the cooler A.I experiments so far, that's for fucking sure.

Anyone else think that this sounds a little like how "Funny How Love Is" could have sounded if it hadn't been written in '73/'74, but for Innuendo?

Indeed. You can kind of hear what songs they fed the program. Must have been late 80's or 90's Queen songs.

This one is a very nice layered vocals example. Sounds very interesting from :30 onwards.
