I'm not sure if I would call Caligula weird....several more, um, descriptive words come to mind.

Well Caligula's life was filled with madness. I'm sure it was like that, I think. However, that film was very over the top, but there are some parts that are very gross.

Yeah, it was a bit over the top.

That's what happens when a Porn King gets producer credit.

You have a point there Zeni. Still, the weirdness (as in the flamboyant way it was displayed) plus the gross factor is high up.

I'm not trying to pick on you, Marie. Please don't take my comments the wrong way.

I thought that movie was awful. It was supposed to be a grand epic, then it went terribly wrong. So many scenes stand out in my mind as simply revolting. (ie take one Christian male, add one farily long and sharp spear, and merriment ensues)

wow marie, you and I have the same exact list :D

but I love caligula nonetheless, the man was a fascinating person and Malcolm Mcdowell is just...AWESOME ;-D

Hey hey Zeni hun! LOL I never felt that I was being picked on by you in any way! In fact, I was agreeing with you :) I found it weird when I saw it for the first time, because it is over the top. Also, I was 15 at the time, and watching T & A, penises, and all of the sexual escapades (incl. incest) was way too strange for me at the time. I agree, the castration scene is gross beyond belief. However, it was a common practice back in the Greek era. Too graphic.

I must agree Paloma, Malcom McDowell performance was superb! He is a wonderful actor! Especially, in Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", one of the best films of all time, IMO. Unfortunatetly it was over-shadowed by the crassness (sp?) of the film.

I pay homage to him in my profile pic ;-)

(its not that cool of an angle... and yesterday was SO not a day to wear white...so I took my own artistic liberties)
