Hi!

Me and a friend are going to London in January.

Those of you who don't live there and just go for a few days once in a while, do you know a good hotel?

It should be cheap and close to Picadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Soho - Well, the usual.

Thanks!

heh... wish I could help you but neither 'cheap' nor 'affordable' are in my mother's vocabulary.

I strongly recommend to search a hotel on http://hrs.com
they don't charge your credit card in advance but you pay when you are there and they have all price categories. You don't need a hotel right in the center (and you save a lot of money) because you travel fast with the "tube" (U-Bahn). Buy a tourist voucher for a combined bus/tube ticket for 4 or seven days in Germany, it's much cheaper than in London. You get the voucher in every Deutsche Bahn Reisebüro without hotel booking. You can choose several "zones". When you arrive in Heathrow buy an all-zone voucher (6 zones) because Heathrow is included, if you arrive in Gatwick or Stansfield a 2-zone ticket might be enough.

I'd rather sleep with the Hiltons than sleeping at the Hilton.

I'm going there next weekend, and I'll let you know if our hostel is any good. I think it's near Hyde Park and something around 15 Euros (dormitory).

What an offer! I will think it over! ;-)

Thank you all.
I'm not so sure about a youth hostel. I once stayed at the Generator with some friends, but my friend I am going with this time is a bit... let's say... finnicky (because of shared bed and bathrooms).
Well, we've chosen this one: Hyde Park West Hotel. Not the best one but I suppose even a 3 star hotel would be too expensive. It's at Nottinghill Gate/Bayswater. Well, we'll see.

Thanks for the advice YourValentine. I knew there was something like that, I just always seem to forget about it.

Yeah Lorenzo, the WWRY posters in the tube stations and busses are cool. I love these 3 in a row in the tube stations: 1. We Will 2. We Will 3. Rock you!

Now I only hope we can get at least standing tickets for WWRY!
