The Darkness: Christmas Time (Dont Let The Bells End)

They are NOT trying to be the new Queen. Jeeez, just because they like their music and are bringing back glam rock does not mean they are imitating them. Where do you people get your crazy ideas from? I think The Darkness are doing a pretty good job, obviously they wont be anything as good as Queen cos their b-sides are a bit crap, and Queen's were really good, but don't just go shooting random comments, did they actually say that? No, I didn't think so.

In the new edition of Metalhammer there`s a The Darkness special,Brian is mention by the band.Brian was interseting playing with band.But i think they was a bit embaressed over Brians work with the boy band 5.

Why are people so negative about this band in here?? We should be glad that some bands still brings some glam rock to us. And i do really see some similarities with Queen.

This band do NOT care about fashion, neither did Queen. And the guitar indeed reminds me much of Brians sound.

I saw an interview with the vocalist in The Darkness. I talked a lot about Freddie Mercury. Its his big inspiration. I love it when bands show Queen this respect. Basically it was about being what god gave you in terms of body, etc. Freddie is a good example there of course.

As for the Christmas song: I simply LOVE it. It has a great melody, and good instrumental track.

Anyway I love the Darkness, think they are best thing to happen to the charts in a long time. Hopefully similar bands will be encouraged by the enthusiastic response to their music.
I bought their album when it was No.62 in the chart, and was glad to hear that they are able to write and play very weel as well a making people laugh. They are not just a novelty act taking the piss out of Glam Rock. Its nice to finally see another band who can take their music-writing very seriously and work hard and put a lot of effort into their songs while still being able to make fun of themselves and not take themselves too seriously, as well as being brilliant live. They have made music amusing, fun, and entertaining again! Sound familiar?

PS. Can anyone explain the joke in the title of their christmas song, I don't get it at all!

the joke is that they got a whole heap of schoolchildren to sing Bell end and ring peace(piece)and no one has complained. rude slang in UK english

They are superb, theyve grown on me. I brough the album and there are some belting riffs on there. Listen to 'Black Shuck' and 'Stuck in a rut' really good rock songs. Its nice to see a band so influenced by Queen, nobody hammered to Foo fighters for liking Queen... If this site was available 10 years ago, Extreme would have been hammered! Just like youre all hammering The Darkness now!

Yes, theirs is the only single i have ever bought in my life (I usually think its a waste of money) because I really want them to beat pop idol!

The joke is that 'Bell end' is slang for a part of the male anatomy.

I like IBIATCL, I bought the single, it's great and the guitar solo is excellent. CT(DLTBE) is growing on me.

I like the Christmas song. They're playing it on the shit radio station I have to listen to at work and it's a few minutes of respite from the Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Good Charlotte that predominates.

I may even purchase the album if I see it at a time when I've got money.

I much rather hear and see the Darkness who are openly, heavily influenced by Queen (and do a good job at being actually FUNNY, cos they overdo everything) than yet another 'artist/singer' who's all serious, doing a bad cover of a Queensong.

Its a great song :) hope its number 1 here in the UK :D the pop idols are currently at number 6 lol
