How much better is the quality of the DVD compared to the original VHS? Also what is is like when compared to the other Queen DVDs on the market? Just wondering cause I might treat myself to it after Christmas.

My VHS copy always had a nasty buzz which is not on the DVD. Compared to the official DVD's it is not as well padded out with extras but it does have Jailhouse Rock which was ommitted from the VHS at the last minute for copyright reasons.

The DVD has the much better picture, in fact it's the best Queen DVD when it comes to picture. It does not wear out like a VHS tape. It has an awesome dts surround sound.
I do not want any google ads here.

The DVD has 'Jailhouse Rock'. That, in itself, makes it better than a VHS tape. And the only reason that I purchased it. Well....it does sound much better, and the 'delays' aren't quite so noticeable on the DVD.

Well, if the picture is better then I think I'll probably get it sometime soon! Thank you all.

I have both. The DVD outshines the vhs copy by far.

Make sure you purchase the correct version of the DVD, too. The version with the blue cover does not have nearly as good video quality as the one with Freddie and the acoustic guitar on the cover.

The new 2002 release of the WWRY lets the VHS copy bite the Dust!!!
VERY MUCH better picture quality, better sharpness, better colors, WIDESCREEN instead of 4:3, better sound, REMASTERED so that those little artifacts from recording on old-fashioned negative-film have disappeared, and the mistakes in sync. which are on the VHS version have been corrected!
ALSO lots of extra's like the Director's commentary.

Don't buy that shitty VHS tape! You'll love the DVD for sure!

PS this widescreen version is NOT cropped at top and bottom,
the 4:3 version on VHS is! So you'll see more even :-)

You'll see less on the WS DVD version as it IS cropped top n bottom due to the 'open matte' film process used.
But this is still the correct and intende theatrical version.

The DVD is without any doubt much better than the VHS

Kevo, have you listened to the director's commentary? The concert was originally also anamorphic filmed on negative. As far as I can see it, it was directly transferred, as is to DVD after remastering the picture.
The 4:3 version has large parts cut away on left and right side. In the DVD you'll have the original widescreen version as shown in the IMAX theatres.

I haven't listened to the commentary but I have done a side by side comparison of the two DVDs and the 4:3 version clearly shows more pic info top and bottom.
