PRANK -- If you've heard that typing "miserable failure" into Google's search engine links to George W. Bush's White House biography page, it's no joke. Pranksters have used a technique called Google-bombing to get the search engine to produce this result for these search terms. Google ranks a Web site by the number of sites with matching search terms that point to it. In this case, George Johnston invited people to help bomb Google with links to the White House site bearing these search terms. Said Craig Silverstein, Google's director for technology: "We just reflect the opinion on the Web, for better or worse."
