The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert for people carrying almanacs, cautioning that the popular reference books covering everything from abbreviations to weather trends could be used for terrorist planning.
Can this get any stranger? I think they are convinced something is coming, but have no idea what

Well supposedly the US government knew about 9/11. Weather almanacs are very useful for farmers. I'm very sure that they know that there is something up, if they suspicious about these almanacs.

Seems a little strange to me. There are any number of suspicious items they could be concerned with. I thought this was a joke at first.
What's next? Hassle anybody carrying a plane ticket? Oh yeah, they already do that.. it's called security.
50% of this is genuine concern and care, the rest is just to add to the overall trend of trying to keep everyone scared to death.. it helps the economy. People fear the worst, they buy extra supplies. Stories like this are planted to keep the fear up.
Then there's the flipside.. mad cow. A real threat which they try to downplay because it involves a major industry losing $$$.
