Grammys mean fuck all anyway. When 'people' like Justin Timberlake win them it proves that the only real place for them is up somebody's arse.
The Simpsons had it right.

I can't find the Peter Buck quote...what is it?

Straight from the soap-box...

PETER BUCK, REM, QUOTE
This is relevant since Brian has put R.E.M. "The One I Love" on The Best Air Guitar Album In The World III.
I have just read the following from the book "It Crawled From The South: An R.E.M. Companion" by Marcus Gray.
[Ed: Unfortunately then, the author gets it entirely wrong.]
***
"Peter Buck says the orchestral-sounding multilayered electric-guitar solo on 'Drive' is his tribute to Queen's Brian May. 'It's a Les Paul through a big Marshall amp, overdubbed six times and picked with a coin. I know Brian May uses some kind of English sixpence that's probably three thousand years old, but I just used a dime.' Unfortunately it was Queen's bass player John Deacon who used the sixpence, but it's the thought that counts..."

At least a grammy will remind the non Queen-fans how good Queens music was.

If FM were alive I doubt he would even go!
Brian: Freddie would you believe it we won a Grammy!
FM: Really darling! For what song?
Brian: Bohemian Rhapsody!
FM: You're joking dear! ***Laughs out loud*** Now, they decide to give us a Grammy...they can keep it I don't give a toss...tell them to f*ck off!

That's cool! I knew Pete was a fellow Queen fan - but that's great, the Drive solo is one of his best.

Too late, of course

All the one-hit wonders who won an award that most people could really give a flying f about. 'Afternoon Delight' was such an outstanding song
choke
Debbie Boone, Christopher Cross and Milli Vanilli and on and on and on
gasp
More of an honor not to be included.
Yup, the Simpsons had it right

At least Queen will be promoted again, that is quite important to help avoiding children to be narcotized with crappy music of nowadays!

"the Drive solo is one of his best."
It's 5 evenly picked notes repeated several times. I'd hate to hear his worst solos.
Dream Theater's "Erotomania"... that's a guitar solo. 16ths in locrian mode at 180bpm. Sheer brilliance.

Do you even know what 16ths in locrian mode at 180bpm means?

No. I bet there's only a tiny percentage of posters here who do. Wasn't that why you wrote it?

Guitar Hero, for the last everfrickin' time, I WILL TAKE THE POWER CHORD ANY DAY OVER THE AUGMENTED TRITONE WHATSAMAHOOSEY IF THE POWER CHORD HAS SOUL!!! YOU DO NOT NEED TO PLAY IN 12/16 TIME AT TWO THOUSAND BEATS PER SECOND TO BE WORTHWHILE! REM IS NOT ALL ABOUT GUITAR SOLOS!
And to think I spend my time defending you people to indie snobs (they've got the opposite hangup).
Peter Buck makes those five evenly picked notes sound incredible. Let's watch your virtuosos do something that has fewer than sixty-four chords played at 80 miles per hour in it.
now that i've got that off my chest...I'm sorry, but I just can't see how you can base evrything on technical ability alone.
And all locrian mode means is that it's based around the seventh note in the scale instead of the first. Big deal.
