Not sure if many people on this forum would recognise the name David Hookes but to those who do (particularly from the Centenary Test Match in 1977) died yesterday night in St. Alfred Hospital. He was punched in the face and fell to the ground; bashing his head on the ground. CPR was performed on him but the paramedics rushed him to hospital. It was with great pain that the family members decided to pull the plug on the life support that was keeping him alive.

Sad stuff that to happen to someone so young (in the cricketing scheme of things)

Yes, yes..I'm still in shock that it happened sort of like a 'Ha, he'll come out of the hospital say "It's OK folks, I was just kidding"' type of reality I'm in now.

So sad that.

Wouldn't manslaughter be a more reasonable charge? This situation sounds (to me at least) like an altercation that turned into a tragic incident.

I too was completely devastated when I saw the news that he's no more.
Aus did well to beat India today and Iam sure they must have dedicated the win to Hooksie.
He was a great cricketer/coach/commentator.
Even Andre Agassi is shocked like everyone of us.
May his soul rest in peace and justice is done to his family .

Sad news, David was a great batsman late 70s early 80s, tragic waste of life, this pom is sad about the loss, we lost a great young English batsman(Ben Hollioake) a couple of years ago in a car accident.
There must be more to life than this.

That's right, we passed the crash in our car as we were coming back from Perth. Sad stuff that.

Well there'll always be Hookesy's 5 fours off Tony Greig:

'You're just another fucking left handed Australian who can't bat'
'Yeah, well I'm not a fucking South African playing for fucking England!!'

Super stuff that.

And his 34 ball century at the Adelaide oval, even going so far as to smack the first ball of the match for six.

I never thought I'd see a cricketer I loved so much die in circumstances like that.
