I don't understand. How is it that you would have all your work from the year on the computer and it not be graded up to this point? I could understand if you lost your recent assignments or something, but ???

my old school was like that, my mate had to stay behind a year 'cause of a similar thing

I use a free one called AVG. Heard about it on Tech TV. It seems good.. but I wouldn't really know if it were missing something it didn't know about ;)

It has a funny way of dealing with viruses.. it tells you it's found one, then says to run the program to get rid of it. So you have to run a complete scan and then it asks you if it should move it to the 'virus vault', then I think it removes the bad bits ('repair') and you can delete it from the vault by opening that separately.

I'd prefer if it just said "we've found a virus, would you like us to remove it?" but what the hell, it was free :-P

Lesson number 1 - always back your work onto a disc or other removal media.

Lesson number 2, where possible do it often.

Here endeth the lesson that you have just learned the hard way. You have my every sympathy as it once happened to me in college.

And DF, I too have AVG. You can set it up to scan automatically everyday at the same time and you can also update the virus list on a daily basis too.

Yeah, I just don't like automatic stuff. I've gotten used to updating/scanning on Wednesday nights for some reason so I'm okay.

I've never found a virus as the result of a scan. Only after being tricked into 'you must click yes' type stuff on a web page where it alerted me immediately, so that's why I said that then you had to run a scan and all that to get rid of it.

FA, I understand now. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully you'll have better luck in the future.
