Freddie's last interview ever...

Do you know when was it conducted and if it was broadcast or published anywhere...? Where was it conducted...? Do you know the story around it...? And the last but not least- at the end of QUEEN PHENOMENON there is a bit of Freddie saying- "this is my last interview...".... Is it part of the one I'm looking for...?

To answer your last question: no, it's not. That quote is from the mid eighties and what Freddie meant was that the guy he was talking to had the last interview of the (long en boring for Freddie) day. That interview is on the GVHII dvd, by the way!

If you mean the thing near the end of 'Champions of the World', that comes from the 'Musical prostitute' interview which can be found on GVH2.

But Freddie says in this interview that the others wanted to tour and he was the only one who didn't. Of course, it's obvious now, why he didn't want to tour but didn't the others know about his illness by then?

(The date previously mentioned was May 20, 1989)

"Around the same time the same group met up for a quiet supper near the studio in a restaurant called the Bavaria. That was the night when Freddie admitted to the band that he was not well.

Someone at the table was suffering from a cold and the subject got round to the curse of illness. Freddie still looked fairly well, but he rolled up his right trouser leg and raised his leg to the table to let the others see the painful, open wound weeping on the side of the calf.

'You think you've got problems!' he told them. 'Well, look at this. Look what I've got to put up with.'

Everyone was very shocked but also very sympathetic. Then, as quickly as he'd mentioned it, Freddie brushed the subject aside.

I think the band had all been well aware that Freddie was seriously ill, and his leg that night was the confirmation they had all been expecting."

The Radio One interview is the next thing mentioned, as if it came after this.. and there again Freddie stated that everyone else wanted to tour except him, so yes, I believe they knew why he didn't want to (or couldn't) by this time.

When the Miracle was coming out, it was confirmed that Queen would not tour - quoting Freddie.

At the time, Brian and Roger said they were still trying to persuade him, Brian even saying he would take his own band on the road if Queen wouldn't tour.

Shortly afterwards it went quiet and was never mentioned again.

That fits in perfectly with the dates Jim Hutton mentions. - my birthday BTW!

I just bought a cheap paperback copy of Mercury & Me on Ebay. With the exchange rate, I think it was about $6.50 delivered to the U.S. Not in great shape, but I only wanted to read it, not collect it.

The Peter Freestone book is easier to get ahold of in the states. I checked it out from the local library.

I liked Mercury And Me better, though Freestone's book covers more stuff.. but it's written in sections devoted to concerts, studio, etc.. so it doesn't exactly read chronologically.
