John Deacon lick his finger

Hello Queenmaniacs!

Here´s Brazil speaking...

Does anybody knows why John Deacon use (used) to lick his finger while he plays (played) the bass???
If you realize in a lot of Queen shows, he put his finger on his tongue... I know this ain't a very common style for bassplayers...

i think it has something with the sound to do....my brother sais that many bass-players does this...
