Hi:

Enjoy reading the clever posts form Queen fans worldwide.

I've been watching the Wembley DVD....and noticed the sign in the stage wings thats says "DUDS"....

Is this an inside joke>? Any insights?

Thanks

It is a very little know fact that in fact John Deacon retired in 1982 Since that time the other members of Queen utilised the very latest in top secret technology and employed a series of simulants fashioned in John's likeness. However the technology wasn't as good as it is today and these simulants were prone to failure. Once they began to malfunction they were placed in the said DUDS (Dead Useless Deacon Simulants) box.

The simulant used on Friday 11th July 1986 had to be placed in here when it began to run like a girl at the end of the show (see LAW DVD - after he throws the crown)

The one at Knebworth malfunctioned in a big way when he knocked his bass guitars over.

In later years Brian and Roger have decided that having a Deacon Simulant is unecessary, but have yet to come clean about the project.....

Is that the same technology they used to simulate Paul McCartney after he died in a car crash in 1966?

Actually, I always wondered myself what it means, so if anyone knows...

Well Mr Deacon aside, I have always been under the impression that it was for the band to take/throw malfunctioning bits of equipment i.e. Mics for the roadies to repair.

Of course I could be wrong, the Deacon thing is plausable

It looks as if there is a sign on each side of the stage. It would seem like an odd place to put a "recycle bin" for bad equipment....it must be some sort of inside joke.

I believe it is a trash bin for broken equipment

I seem to remember that it was a bit of sabatage from a Status Quo roadie. During the UK leg of the Magic tour the Queen roadies would play air guitar when Quo were on distracting the crowd, at Knebworth for example the guy was on top of the Video screen. Quo roadies unfortunatly were not quite as funny!

I emailed my question to Brians website. Someone (not Brian)from the site sent a message back saying that "DUDS" was a box for stage clothes.

Hmmmm. It just doesnt seem right. Those are hand written signs on both sides of the stage. And why would they need to boxes of stage clothes on either side of the stage?

Oh well.
