over the top, larger than life, vocal an music extravaganzas, godlike, great... those are some of the words that describe queen but than can also be used to describe moulin rouge. it,s all so big, in many colors and i love it! firs nicole kidman is great and have great voice, no one can deny that so i think freddie wasn't turning in his grave(ok i know he hasn't got one) when she was singing the show must go on and i like to think of it as a hommage to freddie really becuase she is dying and singing inside my heart is breaking, my make up maybe flaking but my smile still stays on... it isn't heartbreaking when freddie was singing that and dying but still i think that songs fits perfectly in the storytelling of the movie and it is very suitable. other fave things in the movie are the elephant scene where they're singing medley of some of the best known and popular love songs of 20th century:kiss(i was made for loving you), bowie(heroes), w. houston( i will always love you) and those among others are all ok in the contest of the movie but my favourites in that scene are all you need is love(all we need is beatles!) and silly love songs(paul mccartney). there are a lot of rock(mostly love songs) songs in the movie: beatles, queen, wings, nirvana, kiss, t-rex, bowie, elton john(i think that's about it). that songs and the way they are performed and the way they help tell the story-it's very fresh, original and new and let's hope there will be some movie like moulin rouge soon.
we gonna rock it tonight!

corection:i didn't mean to say that it isn't heartbreaking when freddie was dying and singing the show must go on, what i meant is that that is more heartbreaking than when nicole kidman sings it in the movie, of course it is, that is one of the most poignant songs i ever heard... freddie get back to where you once belonged!

I liked it very much. Nicole is great.
Give me a good guitar, and you can say that my hair's a disgrace, oh, just find me an open car - I'll make the speed of light out of this place...

I think we had some lovely threads about it when it came out.

Oh, and some when it came out on DVD.

I watched the movie. I did not like the movie. I did not like that version of "The Show Must Go On" and I felt the need to rip the speakers off my TV.

Oy.

I hated it too, I usually like musicals, but there was just something about Moulin Rouge that made me despise it

One of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Absolute crap.

My respects to Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor for being some of the finest actors in Hollywood. Their performances were as good as always. However the movie is nothing but plotless musical that does nothing but ruin a whole bunch of pop/rock classics, including a masterpiece like 'The Show Must Go On'.

The version of "Roxanne" haunted me for days. They senselessly murdered a good song... and the movie was SO damn confusing. My friend had to explain to me what was going on and I couldn't follow it!

EDIT:: When I say "haunted", I mean that it SCARED me. >:o
