I have understood that Freddie never admitted that he was gay. Of course you could guess, but not many knew for sure.

"They" found out on the Jazz tour. On Live Killers, there are three infamous beeps during Freddie's intro to Death on Two Legs where he says "this is a song about", then you hear the beeps. What he said that had to beeped out was "this is a song about deepthroating massive cocks. We call it Death on Two Legs (as the cocks in question where so big they were like legs, two legs in fact.) Of course the band couldn't let the general public know this so only them and the audience at the concert knew Freddie was gay as there was no internet to pass his comments along to the rest of the world. - I couldnt pinpoint the exact time, but it probably aroused their suspicions when he started having sex with guys.
