The reason why Freddie changes to the cordless mic is that he had problems with the other. You can see it on the video (if I remember correctly). I think he shakes the "normal one" few times before he changes it to the cordless mic.
He had same kind of problems also in Buenos Aires March 1st 1981 video and he sings to John's microphone. I think this was during Save Me.
By the way, did anyone notice they turn the volume level up on John's mic when Freddie grabs it? This proves it was plugged to the mixing desk but was with lower volume level than the others..
