And be honest.
Would 'I'm in love with my car" be a good title for a rock musical?
would We will Rock You be a good song for a car commercial?
[/QUOTE]
In all fairness, Niek, WWRY was used in a Ford commercial. *LOL*

I wouldn't have thought Roger was jealous at all. Ok, so the musical was named after Brian's song and has been used countless of times and re-recorded etc. But his comments on that (especially the Pepsi fiasco) tend to indicate that he doesn't think it's necessarily a good thing. And although he was involved in the musical, it's obvious that Brian's the main driving force behind it.
In my opinion I think Roger's solo material is better overall than Brian's, and that's coming from someone who loves the heavy stuff which Brian does so well. I think that musically and lyrically Roger writes better songs more consistently, at least in solo terms. Both seemed to write much better songs within the Queen unit (competition and influence probably played a part here), but outside of Queen I rate Roger over Brian.
The exception to this would be Furia (never heard the McBeth score). Can't see Roger doing something like that, and Brian is very good at that (Flash, Highlander and Furia). He should probably do more soundtrack type stuff (i.e. minimal lyrics. The Call anyone?)

Doctor, oh doctor
my world needs attention
got sickness and poverty
just too much to mention
or something :D
I'd love an instrumental album by Brian, with stuff like Furia Theme, Last Horizon etc etc.

I think the call has great lyrics, Really makes you think.
I prefer Brian weakest lyric (Sweet Lady) over 70% of the Roger songs
"We don't make ships and we don't make cars
But we look real good hangin' out in bars "
*yawn*

Mmm. Don't think I meant "minimal lyrics" in my post!!
Kinda get your point on that snippet from Roger's song, but that's Nation of Haircuts isn't it, which I actually listened to properly and I actually think it's a good song and the lyrics say something. I don't tend to analyse lyrics as a rule to be honest, but that set me off thinking about Roger's stuff and it occured to me that while Queen always said they were political, Roger is to some degree in his solo stuff (Nazis, Dear Mr Murdoch, Haircuts etc).
Then you think about Brian's White Man, which I had never bothered to interpret before and then read something on his site about his thoughts on the native Americans and then it all clicked. I might have to revisit the songs and listen closer!!!
But I still stand by my point. Love Token, China Belle and Cyborg were always tracks that I loved for the music, but didn't think much of lyrically.
As for Sweet Lady, there was an other discussion on here about that I think (or might have been on QMS) where someone pointed out that the song was probably a two way conversation and again, I'd never seen it that way before. So I disagree that Sweet Lady is his worst/one of his worst lyrics

I think Roger gets a lot less attention than Brian now. Brian is still seen as a god and Rog is basically just "a chubby old man" to most folk...
But then, a friend of mine has met Roger at an SAS gig and she says he's really friendly and all that, just a bit less "in your face" than Brian.

Maybe because Rogers drumming sucks so much these days, He really needs more excersice.
And don't say he is still a wonderful drummer. Cause he isn't. He's just a good drummer now, nothing more....maybe if he got some more excersise

Exercise and practice! I imagine he hardly touches a drum kit from day to day. Why would he? If they were recording or playing regularly then he'd have a reason, but he's been doing all his life, so is it surprising that he doesn't practice?
That's life I suppose!

Like someone said earlier Brian is still seen as a god Roger is considered to be a chubby old man who's drumming sucks. Seems like Brian is allowed to get older and Roger isn't...
He didn't practice in the 80's, he was playing the rythm guitar in his own band! I think this makes it clear that he thinks of himself as a musican and not just a drummer. And then: How much stamina does it take to play the guitar?
And as far as songwriting is considered: I have a lot more fun listening to Roger's solo material than Brian's because I think it's more complex. And I don't even want to start a discussion about the singing voices. Clearly I think Roger has not one reason to be jealous of Brian! ;-)
