The only thing that I could possibly associate Japanese Anime with 'X' is X Japan, which was the most popular Japanese band of the 80s and early 90s.

I think it is! May I suggest another anime to check out? It even has awesome music. It's called "Trigun". But, be warned, Do NOT watch it in english! ;)

May I also suggest, if you haven't seen it, Tokyo Babylon? Among other things, it sets the premise for X. Just please, I'm begging you, watch the animated version.
